About the Band
As a veteran of the classic rock era to which the band (and cover art) pays homage, Matt Bunsen and the Burners count the Grateful Dead and Frank Zappa amongst the artists they never opened for, although sharing the stage with artists ranging from Roger Miller to Ween is also something they never did, but would have liked to. Frankly, even opening for regional artists like Jack Shit (Los Angeles) and the Supersuckers (Tucson) would be cool.
Anyhow, since their Greatest Hits CD came out this year, there is no telling what depths of obscurity or glory awaits.
Nowadays, Matt Bunsen and the Burners performs sporadically in the Los Angeles area, with one specific goal: having fun. With four different top-notch vocalists (plus Matt), the band keeps the audience guessing (to the point of confusion) about their next move. But the close-knit family puts on a spirited show which includes sketch comedy, and antics that would get them in trouble as recently as 1974. A particularly web-savvy band, they may tweet or check email on stage, and some of them even build websites for a living. (The band band member have also been known to partake in substances that are arguably still illegal in California, but that's a personal matter...)
Musically speaking The Matt Bunsen Songbook covers a lifetime of experiences, and stylistically
crosses the different genres that the band is comfortable with. They are not adverse to old country standards, but are more likely to take on a classic rock cover, and take great pride in their delivery of the occasional anthem.
